In a brazen act of violence, bandits have struck Kasuwa-Daji Town in the Kaura-Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The attack, which occurred in the early hours of February 14, 2024, resulted in the death of two policemen, two other residents, and the abduction of at least 40 individuals.

According to residents, the bandits entered the town brandishing sophisticated weapons, including an anti-aircraft gun, and began shooting indiscriminately to instill fear among the populace. The former State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Hamisu Kasuwar-Daji, was specifically targeted, with one of his wives and grandchildren being abducted from his home.

The audacity of the attack was underscored by the proximity of Kasuwar-Daji’s residence to a police station in the town. The bandits not only attacked the station but also managed to disarm the policemen on duty, resulting in the tragic loss of two lives.

As the bandits moved through the town, they engaged in house-to-house raids, abducting approximately 40 individuals. The grim tally of victims includes not only the two policemen but also two other residents who lost their lives during the attack.

The Zamfara State Police Command, while confirming the attack, refrained from disclosing the exact number of abductees. However, they assured the public that additional troops have been deployed to restore normalcy to the town.

The incident in Kasuwa-Daji serves as a chilling reminder of the escalating banditry crisis in Zamfara State, where innocent lives continue to be lost, and communities are left reeling in fear. It also highlights the urgent need for enhanced security measures and coordinated efforts to combat the scourge of banditry that has plagued the region.

As authorities work to restore peace and security, it is imperative for the community to remain vigilant and support law enforcement agencies in their efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice. The safety and well-being of the people of Zamfara State must be a top priority, and concerted action is needed to stem the tide of violence and restore peace to the region.
