In an incident that unfolded on Wednesday, a five-member armed robbery gang faced a tragic collision with a truck at Ada George Road, Nkpolu Oroworukwo, in the Mile 3 area of Diobu, Port Harcourt. These criminals, reportedly having committed a robbery along the Ada George/Chinda axis, were fleeing the crime scene when their vehicle collided with a stationary truck.
An anonymous eyewitness, a private security guard attached to a warehouse where sealed engine oil is sold, raised the alarm, attracting the attention of passersby and the police. The armed robbers, in an attempt to evade a pursuing police patrol van, took a detour through Rumukokwu from Ada George Road, ultimately colliding with the stationary truck, resulting in the death of one gang member.
A viral video of the incident depicted one of the robbers behind the wheel lifeless, while two others lay critically injured on the ground, subsequently apprehended by the police. Two gang members managed to escape the scene.
The incident drew the attention of residents and passersby who gathered at the scene to witness the aftermath, with some individuals describing it as a form of “judgment day.”
Upon contact, the spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident, stating that the investigation is ongoing. Iringe-Koko affirmed, “Yes, I can confirm the incident. They were fleeing from a crime scene with their vehicle and rammed into a truck. They were taken to the hospital following their injuries. One of them was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty. The two other suspects are in critical condition and receiving treatment. Investigation is ongoing to arrest the other gang members that escaped to make them face justice.”
