The attack occurred on top of the NNPC Bridge along Oke-Mosan road in Abeokuta. Oyekanmi was returning from the bank, where he had gone to make withdrawals for the upcoming budget presentation.
Despite being rushed to the State Hospital, Ijaye, Abeokuta, he succumbed to his injuries. The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abiodun Alamutu, confirmed the incident and revealed that investigations are underway, with efforts to track down the culprits, who reportedly escaped with a substantial sum of money.
The absence of a police escort at the time of the attack has prompted additional measures, including obtaining CCTV footage from the bank and blocking exits out of the state to aid identification and apprehension of the perpetrators.
