were confronted with the heartbreaking discovery that four of their children had been taken by their recently moved-in neighbor. The tenants, Madam Ngozi Kingsley, Madam Ifeanyi Uduma, and Madam Blessing Peter Obasi, all traders in Umuahia, shared their accounts with
The suspected abductee, along with another person believed to be her sister or accomplice, arrived on December 15 as new tenants. They raised no suspicion initially,
playing with the neighbors’ children and even buying them gifts. The tenants, however, later observed peculiarities, such as the newcomers having minimal belongings and wearing similar wrappers.
Despite the seemingly friendly interactions, the situation took a dark turn. One of the tenants recounted how her child came out of the suspects’ house wearing a white cloth with red spots, prompting concern. The suspects allegedly cooked for the children, bought them drinks, and even dressed one child in a distinctive manner. When one of the suspects left with a sack bag, the tenants became alarmed, realizing the children were missing.
The suspects reportedly took four girls, including the grandchild of another tenant, who sought assistance from the police. The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the incident and stated that some suspects associated with the unknown tenant had been arrested. The whereabouts of the children are under investigation.
The police advised the public to report such incidents immediately and urged caution when entrusting children to unfamiliar individuals. The gravity of the situation underscores the importance of vigilance and timely reporting in safeguarding children from potential harm.
