Three people have been apprehended, according to the Bayelsa State Police Command, in connection with the lynching of 32-year-old Ebimotimi Freeborn, who was accused of stealing bread from the Tombia-Amassoma Road in the Yenagoa area of the state.

Preye Mathew, Theophilus Tiro, and Famous Precious were named as the suspects in a statement released on Tuesday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Asinim Butswat.

Butswat said, “The Bayelsa State Police Order has captured three suspects regarding the horde activity by a wild group, which prompted the passing of Ebimotimi Freeborn, 32.

“The suspects, Preye Mathew, 50, Theophilus Tiro, 28, and Famous Precious, 22, were arrested on July 9, 2023, around 5 p.m., along the Tombia-Amassoma Road, after the suspect was lynched to death for allegedly stealing bread by an angry mob.

“The command condemns the mob’s actions and urges the general public to refrain from enforcing the law on their own. At the conclusion of the investigation, the suspects will be brought to court for questioning.
