
Nigeria: 23-year-old imprisoned in Ekiti for stealing phones

An Ekiti Express Justices’ Court, Ikere-Ekiti Division has condemned 23-year-old Emmanuel Ekundayo to one-year detainment for stealing cell phones belonging to a students of the Bamidele Olumilua College of Instruction, Science and Innovation, Ikere-Ekiti.
Ekundayo, who said to be a student of a polytechnic in the state, was summoned before Judge Dotun Omoteye on one count of taking and was sentenced.
An assertion signed by the university’s Public Relation Officer, Temitope Akinbisoye, made available to journalists on Thursday in Ikere Ekiti expressed that Ekundayo committed the offense on the college grounds on July 17, 2023.
Akinbisoye expressed, “The guilty party was caught on July 17, 2023, during one of the 2022/2023 first semester assessments at the library address theater while stripping the packs of understudies sitting for assessments.
“He confessed to the offense and was indicted by the judge on the strength of the proof under the watchful eye of the court, however with a choice of N50,000 fine.”
Busuyi Jayeoba, the university’s acting Director of Legal Matters, stated after the verdict that the development would act as a deterrent for others.
