The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed the death of two people who suffocated while removing a diesel depot in Kano on Saturday evening.

In a statement yesterday, the State Fire Service Public Relations Officer, Sanu Abdullahi, said the incident occurred along Katsina Road at Baban Gwari roundabout in Fagge Local Government Area.

Abdullahi revealed the names of the dead: Philippe Osando (40 years old) and Philippe Emmanuel (35 years old).

“We received a distress call from Inspector Abubakar Suraho at approximately 8:20 p.m. on Saturday and sent a rescue team to the scene.” The scene arrived at approximately 8:20 p.m.

Mr Abdullahi said the deceased were informed that they needed to prepare to receive diesel at their workplace. They entered the diesel tank to empty it, but were unable to get out.

He said the victim was rescued by the fire department and handed over to the police.

Abdullahi added that the two were taken to a hospital where doctors pronounced them dead.
