Morocco: According to US authorities, El Chapo’s wife will be released from prison

According to the US Bureau of Prisons, Emma Coronel, the wife of the jailed Mexican drug lord Joaqun “El Chapo” Guzman, will be released on Wednesday in Los Angeles after being arrested in 2021 on drug trafficking charges.
After pleading guilty to three counts of assisting the Sinaloa drug cartel, including conspiracy to launder money, distribute illegal drugs, and engage in financial dealings, the 34-year-old from the United States was given a sentence of three years in prison in 2021.
She also admitted working as a courier between Guzmán, the leader of the cartel, and other members of the group in Mexico’s Altiplano prison following his arrest in 2014.

Her condemning appointed authority said Coronel had rapidly acknowledged liability and consented to relinquish almost $1.5m of continues from her crime to the US government, and her three-year sentence was subsequently decreased.
On its website, the Bureau of Prisons stated that Coronel would be released on Wednesday from a Los Angeles low-security prison without providing any additional information.
In the mean time, Guzmán is carrying out a day to day existence punishment in the US in the wake of being removed there in 2017 following two breaks from Mexican most extreme security jails, once by digging a mile-long passage from his cell.
A request for clarification from Coronel’s legal team was not immediately met. She may be charged with drug trafficking or other crimes in Mexico, but it is unclear.
Coronel was likewise given a further two years of regulated discharge.
Coronel married Guzmán in 2007 at the age of 18, and together they have two daughters. Coronel met Guzmán when she was a young beauty queen.
