Returning home after watching a football match on Wednesday night, Akpan was ambushed by gunmen who shot him twice in the neck at close range, leaving him in a pool of blood. The incident caused chaos in the once peaceful area, with residents fleeing for safety as the gunmen fled the scene.
On Thursday morning, discussions among residents and passers-by centered on fear of potential mass arrests by the police and calls for a thorough investigation to unveil the culprits. Akpan, originally from Akwa Ibom State, had been a resident of Port Harcourt for several years. The police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, was yet to provide feedback from the police division near the area as of Thursday night.
