Man arrested for kidnapping and rape

An Igbosere court in Tinubu Lagos on Friday sentenced a 38-year-old man, Dayo Bakare, to 34 years in prison for the kidnapping and rape of a 27-year-old woman in 2012.
Chief Magistrate Adetokunbo Omoyele sentenced Bakare after finding him guilty of the crimes committed against him by the police.
On November 17, 2012, the convict was charged with criminal conspiracy, illegal sexual relations, arrest, kidnapping, stabbing and serious damage.
The prosecutor, Inspector Cyriacus Osuji, told the court that Bakare conspired with others at large to rape the victim.
He said the incident happened in 2012. on January 24th at about 4pm at a house on Akeem Lasisi Street, Shasha District, Lagos State. Osuji told the court that the convict had illicit relations with the woman and held her captive for eight hours.

He noted that Bakare also stabbed the victim with a broken bottle.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the committed crimes are contrary to the 2011 411, 258, 144 (b), 269 (b) (1), 17 and 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.
But Bakare pleaded not guilty.
Eleven years after the incident, Magistrate Omoyele found him guilty and sentenced him accordingly. He sentenced him to two years in prison for conspiracy; 14 years for illicit sexual relations; five years for arresting a person with intent to commit unlawful sexual intercourse; 10 years for kidnapping; and three years for assault and indecent assault.
Magistrate Omoyele ruled that the prison terms should run concurrently from the date of sentencing.
