The Committee of the Sheriff’s across the Sub-Region has recently held a press briefing to mark the centenary anniversary of the late Sheikh Mahfouz Hydara to be held this coming weekend (8th to 10th November).
The cardinal objective of the gathering is anchored to revive the great contemporary works of the late Islamic cleric.
The President of Sheikh Mahfouz sub committee, Sheikh Sharif Sarane Hydara said the great cleric has left an indelible mark in the annals of history.
He further added that the late Sheikh has devoted his entire lifetime to better mankind and his religion. Adding that “he was someone who travelled across the length and breadth of Mauritania, Mali, The Gambia, Senegal and Guinea Bissau. He created communities and settlements where he preached and teach Islamic religion to ensuring that there is peace and tranquillity in all these communities,” he recalled.
The president of the sub-committee further highlighted the significance of the event and said there will be a “National Day of Prayers” in all the countries in the sub-region.
This event, he said, coincided with the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammed (SAW)
“We have series of programs we wanted to do for this centenary, National Prayers Day” he said.
He said the Sub-Committee would further advance its efforts to continue the good works of the late cleric ” to set-up institutions on his behalf to continue the good work he has been doing. “We intend to create a foundation for him,” he disclosed.
