The Gambia Tourism and Hospitality Institute (GTHI) will hold its maiden food and beverage exposition from 25th to 27th May 2023 at the institute’s premises.

The expo seeks to promote healthy food consumption and boost local foods to enhance socio-economic growth.

Speaking in a recent press briefing ahead at the event, Peter Mendy, Head of Department for Research and Consultancy at the institute said the programme aims to promote Gambian local produce.

“This programme will provide very important exposure for food businesses because over the years, we have been having other trade fairs, but this one is going to be special. It is also going to empower food businesses to come and showcase their products with potential buyers,” he said.

“Our main objective  is to come up with healthy food options by promoting local foods and eating of organic foods. We believe that to make our population healthy, we need to promote and sensitise the people on the importance of local food consumption,” he added.

Fatoumatta Sillah, Communications Officer for GTHI said the event will enable local food producers to network and learn with international chefs.

Maimuna Dibba, Reserch Assistant at GTHI echoed similar remarks and called for the promotion of Gambian foods to the world.
