Gambia gets media regulatory council

The Gambia Press Union with support from the Ministry of Information, Communication & Infrastructure (MoICI) and Ministry of Justice (MoJ) are at an advanced stage for the setting up of a National Media Council known as the Media Council of the Gambia (MCG) according to the GPU.
The MCG will be a voluntary media focusing on mediating complaints raised by the public, private, public bodies against the media and building the ethical capacity of media practitioners.
For the GPU this has long been recognized. The need for the regulatory framework for the Gambian Media Industry to enhance media professionalism and mitigate conflict media and its stakeholders is over due.
Its Against this backdrop, that the GPU is hereby inviting the general membership to meeting on 14th December, to solicit their inputs into the MCG draft constitution and the setting up of the council.
