Twitter has announced temporary restrictions on user interaction with posts on the app in what the platform’s owner described as view limits to tame “addiction”.
Elon Musk said in a statement on Saturday that the action will assist address extremely high levels of data scraping and system manipulation.
At first, Musk said that verified accounts could only see 6,000 posts per day, compared to 600 for unverified accounts and 300 for newly created unverified accounts.
Musk later changed and raised the prices, stating that soon verified users will read 8,000 posts, compared to 800 for unverified users and 400 for new unverified users.
“The reason I set a ‘view limit’ is because we are all Twitter addicts and need to go outside. I’m doing a good deed for the world here,” he said.
The Twitter boss introduced radical changes that saw thousands of verified accounts unbadged for failing to activate a subscription-based verification option.
Musk set the monthly subscription fee for individual accounts at Sh972 ($8).
The move saw some politicians, celebrities, media companies, and journalists lose their badges.
However, Twitter users with more than one million followers got their blue verification badges back.

Musk announced that the platform will soon start paying content creators for advertisements on their replies.
He said the first block payment will amount to $5M (Sh694 million).
Musk added that users must have a verified account to receive the payment for the advertisements.
“In a few weeks, X/Twitter will start paying creators for ads served in their replies. The first block payment totals $5M. Note, the creator must be verified and only ads served to verified users count,” he said.
