Ivorian Minister of Industry and Mines Jean-Claude Brou has been appointed chairman of the Economic Community of African States of the West (ECOWAS) with effect on 1st March 2018.Brou’s appointment took place on Saturday in Abuja, Nigeria, at the end of the 52nd Ordinary Summit of heads of States and Governments of ECOWAS,
“I am very happy to announce to our fellow citizens that Cote d’Ivoire has been honored with the position of president of the ECOWAS commission going to our compatriot Jean Claude Brou” said Alassane Ouattara , president of Ivory Coast.
Beyond this appointment of an Ivoirian to the presidency of the commission of the sub-regional institution, he added, several issues have been tackled this 52nd ordinary summit.
“We reviewed all the major ECOWAS issues. We have taken stock of the efforts to settle crises in Guinea-Bissau or in other countries. We have expressed overall satisfaction in the latest development in Togo” the Ivorian president added.
Continuing, he also stressed that he and his peers took stock of the security and economic situation of the sub-region.
The ECOWAS Commission is chaired, since June 2016, by Benin’s Marcel De Souza.
