By Sulayman Waan

Medical investigation on the Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) outbreak in the country has confirmed that E-coli and possible toxicity from Syrup paracetamol are main causes of the disease.

In a statement signed by Dr. Mustapha Bittaye, director of Health Services at the Ministry of Health said: “With the ongoing investigation on the Acute Kidney Injury outbreak in the country, it is now concluded that the possible causes are E-coli and possible toxicity from Syrup paracetamol.”

“As the investigation continues we write to inform you all that hands washing should be encouraged in all clinics especially in IMNCI clinics,” it added.

The Ministry therefore suspended all Syrup paracetamol till further notice.

“An alternate of crossing paracetamol tables is encouraged,” medical experts said.
