By Ahmad Hadizat Omayoza, Mamos Nigeria
In Dublin, chaos erupted as clashes between protesters and police escalated, sparked by a knife attack on three young children outside a school. Riot police faced taunts and fireworks, while vehicles were set ablaze, and shops looted.
The unrest, the worst in years, followed a stabbing incident in north central Dublin, leaving a five-year-old girl seriously injured. Social media rumors inflamed tensions around the assailant’s nationality.
Amid dissatisfaction over a housing crisis, some protesters expressed anti-immigration sentiments, waving signs like “Irish Lives Matter.” Authorities later restored calm, emphasizing the need to prevent a manipulative element from exploiting tragedy.
The incident, unrelated to terrorism, involved a man in his fifties, and the Prime Minister confirmed a suspect’s arrest. Witnesses described disarming the attacker, highlighting a community’s rapid response. Political leaders expressed shock and solidarity with the affected families.
