Dozens of people were on Saturday evening arrested by security officers of The Gambia Police Force (GPF) and the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) for violating the 21-day-curfew orders imposed by President of the Republic, Adama Barrow.
The ‘Operation Save Our Souls’ Campaign launched by the GPF following Presidential directives, is geared towards slowing down the surging COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
According to the Ministry of Health (MoH) of The Gambia, the country has currently registered over One Thousand and Ninety (1090) cases of the Novel Coronavirus dubbed COVID-19.
“These arrestees are to be prosecuted and will soon appear before the courts. They have violated the Presidential Orders that imposed a-21-day curfew with mandatory wearing of facemasks and closure of shops, mosques, churches and public gatherings, etc,” said a senior police officer on duty.
He added: “You (the journalists) should join and support us in the crusade to curb the virus.”
