

DLEAG officers arrest 2 over illicit drugs peddle

Officers of Drug Law Enforcement Agency of The Gambia (DLEAG) in West Coast Region have arrested and detained two suspected drug peddlers.
“Operatives in the WCR have taken into custody 43 years old Lamin Jarju alias Lamin Sarjo, a resident of Busumbala and a businessman together with one 43 years old Bubacarr Faal, a Senegalese residing in Kabada, Cassamance on 15th September 2022 at around 14:40hrs onwards with (56) big bundles of suspected cannabis sativa concealed in white bags wrapped in a cement paper in an ash color C class Benz with registration number BJL 2276W, the vehicle belong to Lamin Jarju,” the anti illicit drugs agency said in a statement.
It added: “His action placed the lives of officers, road users and other pedestrians at risk. But the officials did not relent on their efforts in arresting him and his accomplice.”
DLEAG further said that Lamin Jarju was previously arrested, arranged and convicted, but paid the court fines and continue his dubious activity until recently when he was nabbed again.
“We take this opportunity to inform the public that pursuant to Section 43(1) of the DCA 2003, a person who is engaged in drug trafficking of 2 kilograms in the case of cannabis sativa, commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine not less than one million dalasis and in addition imprisonment for a term not less than ten years,” the anti illicit drugs agency said.
“In view of the aforementioned therefore, let us all join hands in keeping our communities healthy, safe and drug free by shunning drug trafficking and related activities,” it said.
