Armed Robbers Target Students in Ogun State Communities, Sparking Outcry

Suspected armed robbers invaded the Ipara-Remo and Ode-Remo communities in Ogun State, targeting students of Gateway Polytechnic, Saapade. The attacks, occurring two Fridays ago and last Sunday, involved shootings, thefts, and alleged sexual molestation of female students. Pictures revealed damaged property and bullet shells at the scenes. Students expressed frustration over recurring attacks, with calls for government intervention.

Despite a ‘Save our souls’ call to the police during the incident, students claim their plea was ignored. The absence of hostel facilities was blamed for students’ vulnerability to attacks, leading to calls for community responsibility. The polytechnic management acknowledged the issue, appealing to the state government for support. The police confirmed the attacks but denied reports of a student death, urging formal incident reporting.
