GHANCOY 6 hailed for services to nation

The sixth ECOMIG Ghana Company (GHANCOY 6) deployed at Barra, North Bank Region of The Gambia has been hailed by the community for its services not only to the community but the country at large.
GHANCOY 6 deployed at Barra as part of the mandate of the ECOWAS Mission in The Gambia (ECOMIG) and in line with its Civil-Military Cooperation activities on Friday conducted a clean-up exercise in the general area of Barra in collaboration with the Gambia Fire and Rescue Service Barra Station. In addition to the clean-up exercise, GHANCOY 6 donated waste bins to the community through Kerewan Area Council. It also organised sporting activities with security forces in the area.
The aim of the clean-up exercise was to contribute their quota to ensuring the cleanliness of the Barra community in order to promote a healthy environment.
Pa Omar Ndow, head of Kerewan Area Council Barra Sub-Treasury, said the commitment invested in the augmentation of the society with regard to their health and the cleanliness of their environment by GHANCOY 6 is next to none.
He therefore expressed appreciation to the contingent for their gesture in cleaning up their environment and supporting them with waste bins.
He stated that it is the Area Council’s responsibility to ensure the cleanliness of the community and environment, but said they do not have enough capacity to do so alone, while hoping that the relationship would continue to grow from strength to strength in the years to come.
According to him, “even today we received request for waste bins but cannot afford to buy for everyone,” adding “the donated waste bins will ease our job.”
“GHANCOY 6’s contribution to the community is immeasurable,” he further said, noting that they are also supporting patients at the community with free medicines.
Alh. Baboucarr Faye, the alkalo of Barra, said all GHANCOYs deployed at Barra are good but described GHANCOY 6 as the best. “Everyone wants to be associated with them due to their kindness and love for the community.”
He said they are promoting Civil-Military Cooperation, adding that they also donated prayer mats to the community mosque.
Omar A.K.M. Jallow widely known as Ojah, a waste collector at Barra, urged Gambians to emulate GHANCOY 6 in ensuring the cleanliness of our communities. He appealed for a tricycle to facilitate his work.
Omar Joof, acting commander for Barra Fire and Rescue Service Station, also thanked GHANCOY 6 for being at the forefront of everything at the community.
He described that cleanliness is Godliness, saying one cannot be healthy if you are not clean.
He also described their relationship with GHANCOY 6 as very cordial, saying: “contingents have been coming in and out but I feel more comfortable working with this contingent.”
