47 Stadiums – Kagame-style.
Fatoumatta: Less than one year (7 months to be exact) after the Summa Company of Turkey begun construction of the structure, Paul Kagame commissioned the 10,000-seat Kigali Arena this past week.
The structure is among the continent’s top 10 indoor sports venues and the biggest in Africa.
Something that Gambians might find interesting:
According to a piece in The New Times, a pro-government daily in Rwanda, “70 per cent of the construction staff were Rwandan while majority of the material used was also locally sourced…”
The arena is in preparation for the semi-finals and the final of the inaugural Basketball Africa League (BAL) scheduled for March 2020.
It is also expected to host the 2021 FIBA Men’s African’s Basketball Championship.
Fatoumatta: I am still waiting for an update on Adama Barrow’s Coalition 2016 sports infrastructure projects – three years ago!
