Coach Ebou Jarra is the man of the moment after guiding The Gambia Armed Forces to the GFF’s domestic 1st Division League title in his first season as the coach of the Khaki Boys. Jarra, who helped Talliding United gained promotion to the 1st Division League last year, was appointed as coach of the Khaki Boys. GAF beats Serrekunda United 3-0 at the Manjai on Sunday, as second place Real De Banjul had their title hope dashed with a 2-1 lost to Bombada at the Box Bar Mini-stadium.
Ebou Jarra and charges are now nine points at the summit before facing Brikama United on Monday for their final game of the league when they will be handed over the league trophy. GAF last won the league in 2009 after winning their first league title in 2003. The Gambia Armed Forces Football Club unveiled Ebou Jarra in August 2016 as its head coach, following the departure of Pierre Gomez, who left the club based on mutual consent, according to the Club.
The Gambia Armed Forces Football Club was formed in the early 1990s and has won two major GFF league titles- 2003 and 2009, as well as participating twice in the African Champions League.
“We came with a game plan, it is difficult to play against Serrekunda United – it is a team that everyone has to respect because bigger clubs find it difficult to beat them. So, we experienced the same in the first round of the league where we had to draw at the Independence Stadium, but thanks to the boys,” he told Mamos TV after the 3-0 win against SK United, which declared them league winners as Real De Banjul was beaten 2-1 by Bombada.
As to how has been the journey for him after winning the league in his first season with the Khaki Boys, an over-joy Jarra told Mamos TV that there are so many challenges as not everything is rosy at The Gambia Armed Forces. “But obstacles are meant to be put aside and thank to Allah that today we are champions of the league.”
Asked whether it is his biggest achievement in his football coaching career, the former Tallinding United gaffer replied in the positive, saying winning the league in The Gambia is a big achievement for him.
An emotional GAF Coach Ebou Jarra was full of praises for the former Chief of Defense Staff General Ousman Bargie and General Sowe for making it possible for him to bring in new players to the team. “Wherever these people are, I am saying a big thanks to them for giving us everything until your time was up with the Armed Forces.”
